The lamp’s output decreases over time, requiring replacement. Quartz Sleeve: All Sterilight UV systems include a quartz sleeve that surrounds the lamp. Viqua’s quartz sleeves are made of 100% fused silica, which lends to the sleeve’s high transmittance. A high transmittance is important as the UV light must travel through the sleeve to reach the water. VIQUA UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve Replacement Overview UV Lamp Replacement: The quartz sleeve will need periodic cleaning if the water contains hardness, minerals (such as calcium or magnesium), iron, or manganese. Replacing the UV lamp is simple and requires no special tools. To maintain proper disinfection, the lamp should be replaced after 9,000 hours of continuous use (approximately once a year). Over time, the UV light output of the lamp decreases, making replacement necessary. The system will automatically notify you when it’s time to replace the UV lamp. Quartz Sleeve Maintenance/Replacement: Minerals naturally found in the water slowly accumulate on the quartz sleeve. This buildup must be removed as it reduces the amount of UV light that reaches the water, decreasing disinfection efficiency. If the quartz sleeve cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced.
