A high transmittance is important as the UV light must travel through the sleeve to reach the water. VIQUA UV Lamp and Quartz Sleeve Replacement Overview for UV Lamp The quartz sleeve will require periodic cleaning if water contains any hardness, minerals (calcium or magnesium), iron, or manganese. UV lamp replacement is a quick and straightforward procedure requiring no special tools. To ensure adequate disinfection, replace the lamp after 9000 hours of continuous operation (approximately annually). The volume of UV light created by the UV lamp lowers over time, requiring its replacement. The system automatically notifies you when it is time to replace the UV lamp. Quartz sleeve replacement/maintenance: Minerals in the water gradually build a layer on the quartz sleeve. This layer must be removed as it limits the amount of UV light reaching the water, lowering the effectiveness of disinfection. If the quartz sleeve cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced.
