The Thrissur Pooram is the largest temple festival in Kerala being held at Thekkinkkadu ground in front of the famous Vadakkunnathan Siva temple. Two groups, consisting of five temples each, take part in the Pooram in a competitive mode. About 100 captive elephants are paraded during Thrissur Pooram. One of the main attractions of Thrissur Pooram is the Kudamattam performed atop elephants .The caparisioned elephants standing in line for Kudamattam is a sight to behold and is arguably the festival’s piece de resistance.
